Asheville ENCORE Conference: Frequently Asked Questions

 

What airport should we use?

Asheville Regional Airport, which is about 15 miles from our hotel. There is no shuttle, but of course cabs, Uber, Lyft and rental cars are readily available. Here is a link to the airport's website:

What is the address and phone number of our hotel?

The Marriott Renaissance Hotel is located at 31 Woodfin Street, Asheville, NC 28801. The phone number is 828-252-8211.

 What if we arrive before the 5:00pm check-in time on our first day?

If you arrive early by plane, the Renaissance will store your luggage for you. If you arrive early by car, you're welcome to go ahead and park your car at the hotel (self parking is $6 per day; valet is $20 per day) even if you haven't been able to check in yet. Inquire at the front desk.

 

What if we want to stay in Asheville later than the 11:00am check-out time on our last day?

The Renaissance will store your luggage for you. If you have a car, you may leave it in its parking space the entire day (see parking rates above).

 

What time does the conference begin and end?

We will kick off the conference Sunday evening, August 22nd, 2021 at 5:30pm. The last event of the conference is Tuesday evening, August 24th which is our closing dinner and Elliot's final program, ending around 9:00pm. Wednesday, April 25th is a travel day. Check the Conference Itenerary for a more detailed schedule.

Alternatively, you can purchase up to 2 extra nights after the conference and spend some time on your own in the Asheville area. This is highly recommended by Darian (NC native) and Elliot (long time NC resident)! Both of us agree it would be a shame to leave this beautiful area without taking the time to more fully enjoy its beauty and splendor. See the Things To Do and See page for ideas.

 

I am flying in. How will I get from the airport to the Renaissance, and back again? How will I get around?

Airport transportation is not included in the trip price, but you can take a taxi for about $40. Uber and Lyft are also available.

Another option is to rent a car - parking rates at the hotel are quite reasonable! Although we provide transportation for the conference activities outside the hotel, if you have a car you would have more freedom during our unscheduled free time and, of course, for the extra days you are surely going to purchase to extend your stay.

Can I add on days to the conference at the group rate?

Yes, as long as there are rooms left (we have been given extremely limited availability at this rate). Contact Darian to purchase up to 2 extra nights before or after the conference and spend some time on your own in the Asheville area. Cost is $125 per person per night based on double occupancy. Single supplement for the extra nights is $99.

  

What is the dress code?

Our dress code is anything you feel comfortable wearing. I guess this means we don't really have a dress code. At the conferences past, most people dressed fairly casually the first two days and then dressed up a bit for the closing banquet. This is not a requirement. I do recommend you dress extra comforably (with good walking shoes) for our outing to the Biltmore. It's a big place!

 

I am a Marriott Rewards member. Can I earn points for my stay? 

Yes, I have been told that if you give the front desk your Bonvoy membership number upon checkin, you will earn points for your stay. 

 

What if I am an Asheville local or have family in the area who want to join me? Can any parts of the conference be purchased a-la-carte?

Do I need travel insurance? What is your cancellation policy?

We are not including travel insurance for this domestic trip. Feel free to purchase it on your own. Our cancellation policy is as follows:

No matter when you cancel, if we can fill your slot, you get 100% refund minus the $95 fee.

If we cannot fill your slot:

- Cancel more than 3 weeks before: You get a 50% refund (not including $95 registration fee).

- Cancel 3 weeks before or less: A partial refund is possible but not guaranteed.

In the EXTREMELY UNLIKELY event that Elliot cannot be there due to an unavoidable emergency, we have no choice but to go forward with the conference as we are bound by nonrefundable contracts. The above cancellation policy will stand.
