Asheville ENCORE Conference Itinerary

Sunday, August 22, 2021:

Arrive in Asheville, check into the Renaissance: 31 Woodfin Street

5:30 p.m.: Doors open - Renaissance Grand Ballroom. Pick up your name tag and goodie bag, and find a seat for our opening program and dinner. Sit anywhere you like; seating is not reserved. 

6:00 p.m.: Elliot's Lecture #1 - Asheville’s Native Genius:  Looking Homeward With Thomas Wolfe ~  Renaissance Grand Ballroom

7:00 p.m.: Seated Dinner ~ Renaissance Grand Ballroom. Menu TBD. Served with rolls and your choice of red or white wine.

Monday, August 23, 2021:

8:00 - 9:10 a.m.: Continental breakfast ~ Renaissance Grand Ballroom (Assortment of gourmet muffins, scones and danish, fresh fruit, Greek yogurt parfaits, OJ, coffee, hot teas)

9:15 a.m.: Elliot's Lecture #2 - The Vanderbilts: All Of Them! ~  Renaissance Grand Ballroom

10:15 a.m.: break. Get ready for our outing to Biltmore Estate!

10:30 a.m.: If riding the bus, meet in lobby to board buses (buses depart promptly at 10:45 a.m.). If driving your car, leave for the Estate at 10:30 a.m.

11:30 a.m. - Lunch and tour of Biltmore Estate:


Approximately 5:15 p.m. - bus arrives back at Renaissance Hotel

Evening free to enjoy one of Asheville's fabulous restaurants for dinner. Bob and Darian will have plenty of suggestions, as will the Renaissance concierge in the lobby. If you are online, check Darian's "Things To Do And See" web page on the Conference section of Elliot's website.

Tuesday, August 24, 2021:

8:00 - 9:10 a.m.: Breakfast buffet ~ Renaissance Grand Ballroom (Farm fresh scrambled eggs with rosemary roasted red skin potatoes, bacon, fresh sliced fruit, freshly baked buttermilk biscuits and gravy, OJ, cranberry juice, coffee, hot teas)

9:15 a.m.: Elliot's Lecture #3 - The Majesty And Mysteries Of  Mountains ~ Renaissance Grand Ballroom

10:30 a.m.: Elliot's Lecure #4 - Exploring The Humor Of North Carolina Poetry ~ Renaissance Grand Ballroom

Afternoon free. Go ride the Gray Line Trolley (you can buy tickets online and then hop on/off right at our hotel!), walk to a downtown lunch spot, have a cocktail at the Grove Park Inn, visit the Art Museum, check out a craft brewery, take a stroll in the N.C. Arboretum, or maybe even take a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Be back in time for dinner.

6:30 p.m.: Closing Banquet, Seated Dinner ~ Renaissance Grand Ballroom (doors open at 6:30pm). Menu TBD. Served with rolls and your choice of red or white wine.

8:00 p.m.: Elliot's Lecture #5 - F. Scott Fitzgerald: His Rise, His Fall, His Asheville Connections ~ Renaissance Grand Ballroom

Wednesday, August 25, 2021:

Check Out - Travel Day
