Millions know Bill Friday from his 30 years as president of the University of North Carolina. During his tenure he helped establish North Carolina as a home to one of the preeminent university systems in the country.
For over 30 years he hosted a TV show on PBS called North Carolina People, on which he interviewed nearly 1,500 of North Carolina's most fascinating residents. Professor Engel was invited to the show not once, but TWICE during his own tenure as English professor at NC State University.
Enjoy this (very 80's VCR-tape quality) recording of his first appearance on the show in December of 1982. It's perfect for the holiday season, as Elliot discusses how Dickens changed Christmas forever by writing A Christmas Carol.
... and because I'm sure you're wondering, YES, we also have a recording of Elliot's second appearance on the show in 1985. Something for you to look forward to as future new content!
